In a recent response, Jane Fonda expressed her thoughts about Sydney Sweeney’s remake of the 1968 Barbarella movie that Edgar Wright is directing. The upcoming revamp of the iconic sci-fi film stars Sweeney as the main character.
Fonda shared that nobody has reached out about the film yet, but she mentioned she could potentially bring some fresh perspectives to the table. She conceded that she won’t reprise her role, but she has numerous concepts for how her character’s tale might be reshaped or reimagined.
In an interview with Vogue, the esteemed actress expressed, “No one has mentioned it to me yet! I’d love to reprise Barbarella, but I don’t think I’d be suitable for the role anymore. I have many thoughts about how a modern take on that could work.
Fonda indicated that she was willing to discuss her thoughts with Sweeney, should they reach out. Moreover, she expressed that although she had not yet met Sweeney, she believed Sweeney would excel in the role.
If Sydney inquires, I’ll inform her. Although I don’t personally know her or have ever met her, I find her impressive. I believe she has the potential to excel as ‘Barbarella’. This was Fonda’s observation.
Several months following the Madame Webb actress expressing interest in meeting with Fonda about the movie, her comments were made. However, it appears that neither of them has had a sit-down since Sweeney expressed this intention back in August.
Simultaneously, writer Blake Northcott shared her joy at having Sweeney as part of the team. “I can hardly imagine anyone else for this role except Sydney. She’s demonstrated her ability to deliver dramatic scenes, but I believe not everyone fully appreciated her comedic talent until ‘Anyone But You’ became a massive global sensation,” Northcott said to ComicBook.
