The 45th Golden Raspberry Awards, which honor the least impressive offerings from Hollywood, have been revealed. Among the winners are the films “Madame Web” and “Joker” 2. Additionally, Francis Ford Coppola has addressed his “win” for “Megalopolis”.
Sony’s Marvel production, “Madame Web,” secured three Razzie awards – an unprecedented feat – in the categories of Worst Picture, Worst Actress for Dakota Johnson, and Worst Screenplay. The official announcement playfully hinted that “…the honor went to a comic-book-based film which, throughout 2024, was frequently touted by moviegoers across the globe as ‘a strong Razzie contender.’
The much-awaited sequel to “Joker” by DC and WB, initially a global blockbuster and an Academy Award winner, surprisingly landed itself in the losers’ circle of the Razzies. This follow-up failed to meet audience expectations worldwide, earning it the titles for Worst Screen Combo (Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga) and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel.
Coppola’s Megalopolis won for Worst Director and responded on social media.
He expressed his excitement on Instagram about winning several Razzie awards for @megalopolisfilm in key categories, as well as being nominated for the unique distinction of worst director, worst screenplay, and worst picture. This recognition comes at a time when it takes courage to challenge mainstream movie-making norms!
Coppola went on to say, “In this broken world we live in today, where ART is judged like a sport such as professional wrestling, I decided to break away from the cowardly guidelines set by an industry so fearful of taking risks that it might not produce works that will still resonate and be meaningful 50 years from now.
