How to unlock High Rank – Monster Hunter Wilds

If you ask a veteran Monster Hunter player what their initial goal is when starting a new game, they’ll tell you it’s about “Achieving High Rank”. Once High Rank is achieved, the possibilities for weapon and armor upgrades broaden, more armor options become available, and formidable monsters can be hunted. Luckily in Monster Hunter Worlds, you won’t have to wait an eternity to unlock High Rank, so you can expect it fairly quickly.

How to unlock High Rank: Quests, Gear, Monsters etc

In Monster Hunter Worlds, you can unlock the High Rank once you finish the storyline up to Chapter 4-1: New Ecosystems. Upon completion of this chapter segment, you’ll be granted access to all High Rank (High-rank in-game) content such as environments, monsters, and equipment.

Starting forward, you can participate in High-Level hunts to manufacture weapons inflicting greater damage and armor providing enhanced protection. However, please note that you won’t be able to create quests for certain monsters if their rank exceeds your own significantly – thus prioritizing the advancement of your Hunter Rank will be crucial. The advantage is that you now have the freedom to boost your Hunter Rank as much as desired, as it no longer depends on the progression of the campaign.

In the quest log, you can distinguish Low Rank and High Rank monsters by their star colors: Low Rank monsters are marked with blue stars, whereas High Rank monsters have orange stars. The higher the number of stars, the more challenging the battle will be. Additionally, any materials that display a plus sign (+) are obtained from High Rank monsters.

Even though High Rank battles are accessible, it’s crucial to continue battling Low Rank monsters until you reach the final stage of upgrading your weapon and armor using specific materials.
