‘Lanterns’ Breaks Free from DCU, Aims for Multi-Season Run

Among the highly anticipated projects in DCU’s Chapter 1, ‘Lanterns’ stands out as one that fans are eagerly waiting for. At first, its description as a realistic, Earth-based story reminiscent of True Detective and Slow Horses took many by surprise. However, the excitement surrounding it has been gradually building up.

The series features Kyle Chandler playing Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, two highly recognized Green Lanterns. Additionally, it’s likely that Nathan Fillion’s character, Guy Gardner, will appear given his previous portrayal of the role in ‘Superman’ behind-the-scenes photos and previews.

In a chat with Vanity Fair, writer-showrunner Chris Mundy shared some key insights about the series. He pointed out that while the show isn’t a direct adaptation of any particular storyline, it draws heavily on the deep and expansive history of Green Lantern.

Our lanterns feature the iconic rings and their associated powers, as well as various other elements of the lore will appear or be referenced. This series delves into the identities of these characters not only in their professional roles but also outside of them, providing an engaging experience for both newcomers to the mythology and those who are deeply familiar with it.

As a movie enthusiast, I’d like to clarify that the intriguing series ‘Lanterns’ operates independently from other DC Studios productions. At present, it doesn’t form part of an overarching narrative, but rather, its first season is crafted as a full, self-sufficient storyline. If the response is positive and the audience craves more, there’s certainly room for future seasons to explore this captivating world further.

Currently, we’re not involved in an overarching narrative scheme. The first season has been crafted as a standalone TV series, ideally, with the hope it will grow into multiple seasons.

The series hasn’t been scheduled for its debut yet, but here’s some exciting news – it’s now in the process of being made! Additionally, we’ve unveiled a sneak peek featuring characters Chandler and Pierre.
