Amongst Japan’s well-loved shopping brands, one is introducing an affordable weekly rental plan for the PlayStation 5 console itself, priced at approximately 980 yen, equivalent to about $7 USD or £5 GBP.
The PlayStation 5 has performed reasonably well in Japan so far, but it’s clear that the home console market in this region has noticeably decreased over the past ten years or so. Given the higher price of Sony’s system and the option for consumers to try before they buy, the rental service offered by Japanese outlet GEO seems quite logical.
To put it another way, the service is starting at a crucial moment – right before Monster Hunter Rise launches on February 28th. The Capcom series has been massively popular in Japan across various platforms, so GEO seems to understand their market well.
In Japan, console rentals aren’t novel, but what’s unique about this particular service is that it’s being offered by a well-respected retailer and it’s significantly cheaper than many other options available.
