Since the debut of the initial “Monster Hunter” game, players have had the ability to strike a monster’s tail (most of them) and gradually progress until they successfully chop it off. This feature has persisted over time, enabling hunters in “Monster Hunter Wilds” to indeed sever the tails of certain monsters.
How to Cut Monster Tails in Monster Hunter Wilds
As a gamer, I’ve found that taking off a monster’s tail in Monster Hunter World requires using a blade-like weapon. Options include a Sword and Shield, a Great Sword, or even agile Dual Blades.
As a gamer, I’ve found that while it’s possible to detach a monster’s body parts with a Bowgun, you’ll get much better results if you use Slicing Ammo. To be honest, even when I aim directly at the monster’s tail tip, the gun doesn’t seem to do as much damage as it should. On top of that, wielding a cutting weapon eliminates the need for ammo!
In older Monster Hunter games, players were able to attack monsters’ tails with various types of weapons, but if a sharp weapon struck at least once, the tail would detach. However, this is no longer true in recent Monster Hunter titles such as Wilds. Instead, you must consistently deal sharp weapon damage to the monster’s parts for them to eventually break off.
Why Should You Cut Tails off in Monster Hunter Wilds?

-
In the course of a hunt, if you manage to wound or separate multiple body parts from a monster, it will result in a larger supply of materials at day’s end. Additionally, there are certain rare armor and weapon components that demand specific materials, which can only be acquired by severing a particular monster part. If your primary and secondary weapons aren’t designed for tail-cutting, you might need to enhance one of them and use it exclusively for severing monster parts. Alternatively, if you don’t have such a weapon, you could partner with someone who can do the job for you.
-
After cutting off the monster’s section, ensure it’s not currently engaged in combat with you before harvesting resources. If you find it difficult to remove a specific part, try to immobilize the monster by using strategies that make it stationary. You can engage it to attack its vulnerable spots; you can set up Shock and Pitfall Traps; you can use explosives or bombs; you can render it immobile with paralysis or use Flash Bombs – there are numerous techniques to keep monsters at a distance. Be careful not to inflict excessive damage before chopping the tail, as this will cause the quest to end and the monster to fall, forcing you to start over.
