When asked, Justin tells Alex that Billie is okay, yet his hesitation suggests otherwise. Doubting the circumstances, Alex maintains a casual demeanor but remains skeptical about the state of things.

Alex chooses to handle the situation personally since she believes she’s exposed Justin and his family to enough risk by abandoning them when it came to looking after Billie.
