The filming for The Odyssey has commenced, and judging by the initial pictures released, it’s shaping up to be a grand saga.
According to TMZ’s latest update, filming for the upcoming movie has been underway for a few weeks now. Pictures obtained by the media outlet reveal the cast, crew, and esteemed director putting in long hours at the village of Aït Benhaddou in Morocco.
In this village, the scenery lends a genuine feel to the story, since the buildings and overall ambiance seem old-fashioned. Simultaneously, the director can be seen strategizing about the plot and diverse filming techniques with his crew, all while standing near a weathered wall coated in mud.
A different image from the source displays the Trojan Horse, enveloped in fabric. This immense edifice is encircled by numerous other stage props, a few of which seem unfinished and in progress.
In case you’re unaware, The Odyssey features Matt Damon and Tom Holland as its main characters. These two were the initial actors confirmed for the role last year.
As excitement grew for the upcoming movie, it was revealed that both Zendaya and Anne Hathaway would be part of the star-studded lineup. Later on, Robert Pattinson joined them, adding even more weight to the impressive cast.
Apart from our previously mentioned celebrities, the movie will also showcase the acting skills of Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron. Furthermore, The Odyssey boasts performances by Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, and Mia Goth.
A week ago, Universal presented a first glimpse of Matt Damon, who is set to embody the main character, Odysseus, in their upcoming epic rendition, based on recent news reports.
The Odyssey is set to be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.
