Who Will Claim Motherhood If Helena or Helly Gets Pregnant on Severance?

In the series “Severance,” character “Attila” served a Cuban-glazed ham alongside profound philosophical inquiries about the soul and responsibility. However, the episode also set in motion a scenario that raised equally intricate, yet critically important questions concerning bodily autonomy and parenthood rights. This situation would also carry significant ramifications for the world’s most malevolent corporation. Instead of succumbing to despair, Helly R. exhibited defiance when she found out about Helena Eagan’s actions during the ORTBO. She refused to let her Outie deprive her of a rightful encounter and bonding experience. Now that both Helena and Helly have been intimate with Mark, it remains unclear what would occur if Helena/Helly became pregnant. The question arises: which one of them would be the child’s biological mother?

In the thrilling first season of “Severance”, I found myself delving into a public uproar that had arisen regarding this intriguing concept. An employee, barely a month into her company’s severance, discovered she was pregnant at work. Rather than diving into the complex legal and ethical aspects swirling around this situation, Natalie tactfully steered clear of the topic, leaving an eager news anchor struggling to probe for substantial answers.

If Helena Egan encounters further complications, Lumon may need to address the troublesome matters (privately if possible), as her actions with Mark S. could lead to even more challenging situations. Unlike the anonymous employee whose pregnancy was non-consensual, Helena Egan voluntarily engaged in a relationship with Mark S., and it seems she might also be pursuing a relationship with his partner as well.

In just a few short days, I found myself in an unexpected situation – both Innie and Helly had shared intimate moments with him, leaving me puzzled about who among Helena and Helly was the true mother of our child.

This new development could make Mark’s tale even more convoluted. Known as Mark Scout the Outie, he is determined to save his wife Gemma from Lumon, a place where he once hoped to conceive a child with her (unfortunately, it didn’t work out). It should be noted that only Mark S. slept with each woman in question. This means that if a child results from these relationships, Mark would be the father. However, both Helena and Helly might assert their right to be considered the child’s mother, a claim they are likely to make.

Helly R is a kind, nurturing individual and would never leave her child, especially not with someone she despises deeply. However, Helena Eagan harbors envy towards Helly’s life. If given the chance, she might try to claim that baby as her own, even if she knew it wasn’t true. Helena has gone so far as to say that Helly isn’t even a person.

It seems unlikely that Helena would be given the option to let Helly raise the child, considering the future of Lumon resides within their shared body. Only Eagans have ever held the CEO position, so it’s likely that both the Board and her father would pressure Helena into having the baby, even against her wishes. They might even bring Helly on full-time to make sure this happens. Senator Arteta’s estranged wife passed on the most difficult aspects of pregnancy to her Innie. Lumon holds significant power compared to a politician and his wife; it appears to have control over both Helena and Helly, able to do as it pleases with them.

This problem, bothersome and intricate, seems to have been leading up to, as if the science fiction series centered around a monstrous operation was foreshadowing it. The story of the senator’s wife carries new significance. Just like Natalie’s news appearance and Mark discussing his and Gemma’s struggles with parenthood. Additionally, all those babies mentioned in the opening credits of season two could be symbolically shouting synchronously now. However, this is precisely the kind of issue we would anticipate when someone as ruthless as Helena Eagan takes advantage of her employees to such an extreme that she effectively seizes their bodies and identities for herself.

Regardless of Fields’ religious beliefs, the termination process is universally seen as repugnant. Instead of generating a fresh soul, it merely divides one into two pieces. However, the mysteries about an Innie’s fate upon death may eventually be resolved in the afterlife. Lumon might soon face complications if they don’t know who between an Innie or an Outie is the biological mother, which is a question that arises when creating a new life. The future of the company could hinge on whether Helena, Helly, or even both will become mothers in this world.
