Marvel Teases ‘The End of the Beginning’ For Nova In Hickman’s ‘Imperial’

Once more, it seems we might bid farewell to Nova, dear friends, as a fresh teaser image from Marvel Comics for the forthcoming grand event titled “Imperial” by Jonathan Hickman has surfaced online.

The image originates from Marco Checchetto’s Instagram Story, who is renowned for his work on titles such as Ultimate Spider-Man, Daredevil, Star Wars, Punisher, Avengers, and numerous others.

The picture serves as a teaser, hinting at Jonathan Hickman concluding the initial phase. It showcases Richard Rider’s Nova helmet amidst what appears to be debris on fire. This issue is scheduled for publication in June 2025.

Killing off Nova? Again???

It’s intriguing to note that the teaser trailer emerged after it was announced that the MCU would create a Nova TV series. As stated by Brevoort, the comics are now being used as inspiration for future film and animation projects. Given that Nova was set to appear in the MCU, Marvel Comics has followed this trend by featuring the character in a major event. However, it’s been reported that Marvel has temporarily halted the production of the Nova series. There’s still optimism, though, that it may eventually come to fruition.

In 2011, Marvel took an approach similar to what they did with Nova. They killed off the character just prior to James Gunn’s first Guardians of the Galaxy film debut. After that, Bendis reintroduced Star-Lord in a humorous way to match Gunn’s MCU, while Rider was replaced by a more progressive version. Later on, Marvel revived Rider as Nova, but it hasn’t felt quite the same since the days of Abnett and Lanning.

What is Imperial?

In December, Marvel.com unveiled a new series titled “Imperial“, which is being touted as “a groundbreaking saga penned by the creative mind of Jonathan Hickman”. The series is set to premiere in the summer of 2025.

Information unveiled at the ComicsPro gathering last week hints that Nick Hickman’s upcoming series, tentatively titled “Imperial,” will build upon the foundations laid by “House of X, Powers of X, and Ultimate Spider-Man” but within the realm of Marvel Cosmic. Previously, Hickman had planned to create an Imperial Guard book, but it never came to fruition. It appears that this new series will bridge the Shi’ar and Nova Corps in some manner. Fans can expect further details from Marvel soon.
