In the upcoming DC movie titled “Lanterns,” Aaron Pierre will take on the role of John Stewart, a well-known character also known as Green Lantern. At the 2025 ABFF Honors, he discussed his experience playing the superhero during an interview with The Buzz.
Actor from Rebel Ridge confessed that he’s deeply engrossed and committed to the current project, which commenced filming in Los Angeles earlier this month. Pierre, who secured the lead role back in October 2024, openly shared that both the project and character hold a special place in his heart.
Beyond words, I’m committed to pouring all my energy into this remarkable role within the superhero universe. In essence, I plan to breathe life into this iconic figure in a way that echoes with the audience and pays homage to the character itself. Simply put, I’m determined to give it my all!
Over the past few years, the DC Universe has been picking up speed. The 2017 Justice League film sparked anger among comic book enthusiasts and shifted the tone of DC towards something more serious. However, this all changed when the Snyder Cut was released in 2021, reigniting fans’ optimism about the live-action adaptations of their beloved franchise.
In 2022, The Batman, featuring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, reached over $700 million at the box office, making it the top-earning movie of the year. Furthermore, another highly anticipated film from the DC Universe, Superman starring David Corenswet, is scheduled for release this year.
Regarding the television series titled “Lanterns,” it was unveiled that it would be included among the original lineup of DCU in January 2023. Chris Mundy has been appointed as the showrunner, and according to reports, James Hawes is slated to oversee the direction of the first two episodes of the series.
Kyle Chandler is set to portray Hal Jordan, an esteemed member of the Green Lantern Corps, a powerful intergalactic police force. In the storyline, Hal will initially resist mentoring the fresh recruit, John Stewart. Together, they become embroiled in a sinister, Earth-bound enigma as they delve into a murder investigation.
Lanterns will be released on HBO’s streaming platform, Max, sometime in 2026.
