Save or Doom Solace Keep? The Shocking Choice in Avowed!

As I delve deeper into the gripping storyline of Avowed, during the Our Dreams Divide Us Still main quest, I’ll face a pivotal moment where I must decide the future of one of Galwain’s Tusks’ significant settlements – Solace Keep. The Envoy is offered two paths: either destroy Solace Keep single-handedly or side with Kostya’s arguments and join forces. Alternatively, choosing to save Solace Keep isn’t without its consequences, making it a choice that carries weight.

Making the decision between condemning or preserving Solace Keep significantly influences the finale of Avowed. While the immediate impact may not be noticeable, there’s no doubt that something will be altered during the endgame.

The Following Article Contains Spoilers Regarding Some Endgame Choices And Consequences.

Should You Save Solace Keep In Avowed

Early Consequences

To prevent Solace Keep from being engulfed by lava, you must vanquish Kostya and unlock the Sluice Gates. Overcoming Kostya grants players an exceptional, rare light armor piece known as the “Radiant Vanguard’s Armor.

In “Avowed”, making this tough decision ensures Solace Keep remains accessible for exploration and commerce. Mihala feels grateful that the keep is secure yet deeply saddened by her companion’s demise. Life eventually returns to its usual pace, but further repercussions are revealed in the endgame.

Endgame Consequences

If players opt to eliminate Kostya, there are three possible results they’ll face regarding the destiny of the Living Lands:

1. The lands flourish under new leadership.
2. The lands plunge into chaos and destruction.
3. The lands remain unchanged, with neither prosperity nor decline.

Choices Consequences
Save Solace Keep + Kill Kostya + Allow Aedyr to Colonize the Living Lands The dwarves welcome the Adeyrans with open arms and open their gates. The Adeyrans’ demands become too much, forcing Mihala to shut the gates once again. As it’s considered a sign of rebellion, the Empire orders an attack on Solace Keep, making the dwarves fight a long battle.
Save Solace Keep + Kill Kostya + Attempt Grefram Mihala is hesitant to open the gates of Solace Keep. This uncertainty in accepting the Aedyrans’ influence costs the dwarves to lose some favoritism in trading. The dwarves are unable to negotiate properly when trading and Solace Keep is the last to be supplied by the Aedyran Empire.
Save Solace Keep + Kill Kostya + Have the Living Lands Become a Free Land Mihala is hesitant to open the gates of Solace Keep but gives it a chance later on. Some dwarves welcome newcomers enthusiastically, while others simply refuse to acknowledge them . Mihala refuses to negotiate at first but learns to compromise later on for the sake of her people.

Should You Doom Solace Keep In Avowed

Early Consequences

Destroying Solace Keep is a decision left to you; Kostya’s fate – alive or dead – hinges on your narrative path. Upon encountering the Councilor, players have two options: either side with him in the destruction of the settlement, or end his life and carry out the demolition yourself. This choice may not sit well with many characters, particularly Marius and Giatta, who suffered the loss of their home during these events.

In my gaming adventure within Avowed, I’ve learned that upon revisiting Solace Keep, it won’t serve as a familiar landmark anymore. Instead, everyone seems to be camping near the scorched settlement. This means I might lose access to several merchants and could potentially miss out on some side quests if they’re not completed yet. However, the bounty master and forge master will still be around.

As for Kostya, if he’s still alive, he’ll be nowhere to be found. Mihala will initially seem relieved but soon express sadness and anger over the burning Solace Keep. On the contrary, if Kostya meets his end, Mihala will vent her concerns about the settlement’s state.

Endgame Consequences

Players will be faced with four different outcomes in Avowed if they wish to destroy Solace Keep:

Choices Consequences
Destroy Solace Keep + Kill Kostya + Any Choice Mihala is devastated about losing both her dear friend and her home. Mihala locks herself up, ashamed to face her people until they force her out of hiding and work with her to build a new settlement. Although used to living in isolation, Mihala slowly started to let other people inside the settlement.
Destroy Solace Keep + Keep Kostya Alive + Allow Aedyr to Colonize the Living Lands The dwarves are thrown into a world they fear, controlled by the Aedyran Empire. Some cling to Solace Keep and are trying to rebuild it, while others are mesmerized by the riches introduced by the Aedyran influence. Kostya spends his days negotiating a better life for his people with the Adeyrans.
Destroy Solace Keep + Keep Kostya Alive + Attempt Grefram Although the dwarves are not shunned by anyone, they struggle to communicate with others due to their isolation for a long time. The Aedyran Empire will take advantage of this isolation and ask for a lot of materials from Kostya every time he visits to negotiate.
Destroy Solace Keep + Keep Kostya Alive + Have the Living Lands Become a Free Land All the dwarves are enjoying freedom, but some of them decide to change and go on an adventure away from Solace Keep, while others are terrified of change, so they cling to the past and rebuild the settlement. While Kostya may not be living the life of riches he imagined, he is spending his time setting up trade routes.
