82-year-old George Armitage, renowned for his work in the 1990 film Miami Blues, has sadly passed away. As reported by Deadline, this occurred on February 15, 2025.
The report was verified by his previous agency, Gersh, and the media outlet. Yet, the circumstances surrounding his death remain undisclosed at this time. Among his many notable works are the 1972 action thriller “Hit Man” and the film “Grose Pointe Blank,” which premiered in 1997.
Beyond just recognized as a director, George Armitage made a name for himself as both a writer and producer as well.
Born on December 13, 1942, in Hartford, Connecticut, Armitage later relocated to Beverly Hills with his family during his childhood years. He pursued degrees in political science and economics at UCLA, eventually transitioning into the film industry after finding opportunities there.
At the start, he found himself in the mailroom at 20th Century Fox, a phase where he was concurrently preparing to receive his real estate licensure.
1966 saw George Armitage stepping into the role of associate producer for the show Peyton Place. He carried out similar responsibilities on Judd for the Defense as well. Fast forward to 2001, George Armitage teamed up with his son, Brent Armitage, to establish a script development consultancy.
Back in 2015, during an interview, the now-deceased director expressed that working on the ABC series Peyton Place was a truly remarkable experience for him.
At around the age of 21 or 22, if you were a young person with an opinion, somewhat in tune with your peers and aware of contemporary trends among your generation, then you were highly regarded,” he emphasized.
In the year 1971, he made both his directorial and writing debut with the film titled “Private Duty Nurses”. The following year saw him release another movie, “Hitman”, which featured Pam Grier and Bernie Casey in leading roles.
