Kate Hudson Regretfully Reveals Why She Let Go of Anne Hathaway Starrer The Devil Wears Prada: ‘That Was a Bad…’

Kate Hudson expressed disappointment for missing out on the opportunity to join the cast of The Devil Wears Prada, the 2006 blockbuster movie featuring Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Meryl Streep.

During a recent conversation with Capital FM, Hudson expressed regret over not accepting the role in the film adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling book. She attributed this to schedule conflicts during production.

She expressed that the decision was unfortunate, and it seemed to be a matter of poor timing. Essentially, there was an instance where she felt incapable of executing something she should have managed to accomplish, but unfortunately, she did not.

In other words, Hudson admitted that refusing the role was a wrong decision, attributing it to poor timing. The actress disclosed that she had prior commitments at the time, but now wishes she could have arranged her schedule differently to take on the part.

Following the movie, she understood the value of the chance she had missed. Initially, the actress admitted feeling disheartened, but eventually, she convinced herself that every event unfolds according to its own purpose. The actress from Mother’s Day was left with a strong sense that the project should have been her top priority.

She expressed her initial displeasure with a casual, “Ewww!” but then added philosophically, “You know, every event has its purpose. There’s a reason behind it all. It was definitely one of those moments where I wished things could have worked out differently.

Prior to the release of “The Devil Wears Prada” in 2006, Kate Hudson had already made a name for herself as a regular in romantic comedies, with her role in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” from 2003. She also appeared in films such as “The Skeleton Key” (2005), “You, Me and Dupree” (2006), “Fool’s Gold” (2008), and “My Best Friend’s Girl” (2008). Hudson teamed up with Anne Hathaway in the film “Bride Wars,” which was released in 2009.

Referring to the unpredictable schedules in Hollywood, Hudson explained that actors often miss performances not due to lack of desire, but because multiple projects overlap. Despite her frustration, she believed that timing prevented her from being part of the movie.

The actress explained, “It’s amusing; it’s a series of events happening and individuals taking photos at various moments. It’s not that you don’t want to participate, but rather it feels like there’s something else going on. And honestly, it was just frustrating.

In international box office earnings, The Devil Wears Prada, helmed by David Frankel and penned by Aline Brosh McKenna, raked in over $326 million. At present, a sequel is reportedly being developed at Disney, with McKenna set to write the script for it.

In 2022, during an interview on The View, Anne Hathaway expressed doubts about the potential for a sequel, attributing this to changes in the publishing industry and the rise of digital media. She suggested that the film embodied a bygone era, implying that creating a sequel might not be feasible.
