Luke Skywalker’s Iconic Medal from A New Hope Hits the Auction Block!

Many items from classic films are put up for auction these days, but none garner as much interest as props from the Star Wars movies, especially those used in the original trilogy. For instance, a highly significant item from A New Hope is currently being auctioned – Luke Skywalker’s medal presented to him by Princess Leia on Yavin IV. This historic Star Wars artifact will be sold through Propstore this March and is estimated to fetch between $300,000 and $600,000. You can find an image of this iconic item below:

Here’s the official description of Luke Skywalker’s Star Wars: A New Hope medal from the Propstore:

This medal hails from the personal collection of property manager Gerard Bourke. Alongside another similar medal owned by Harrison Ford, these two pieces are believed to be the sole existing examples of this particular prop from the movie. Being the first time it’s up for public auction, this is also the only one available.

The slight wear on the top corner makes it clear that this medal belongs to Luke, and not Han. Interestingly, only Mark Hamill as Luke and Harrison Ford as Han received medals following the destruction of the Death Star. Chewbacca was honored in the throne room, but his valiant actions didn’t result in a medal for him. (Who do you think managed to persuade Han to return and help Luke?) Although he obtained a medal later in The Rise of Skywalker, that was an old one of Han’s. It’s just not the same. Moving on, the original trilogy’s famous Wookiee, Chewbacca, is also auctioning his bowcaster, with a price tag ranging from $250,000 to $300,000 during this sale.
