Many businesses are pushing artificial intelligence on us rather aggressively these days, making it challenging for sophisticated AI to earn our affection. However, Alexander Skarsgård is about to attempt just that in Apple TV+’s upcoming series “Murderbot”. He portrays the title character, a robot with several human-like issues. Recently, Apple TV+ has revealed a sneak peek of the sci-fi comedy thriller, giving us a glimpse of what Skarsgård will look like as he navigates his problems on screen.
On coming Friday, May 16, viewers will get their initial sneak peek at the “Murderbot” series on Apple TV+. The images reveal both masked and unmasked Skarsgård in his leading role, with a hint of weariness or displeasure on his face that adds an extra layer of humor for fans of Martha Wells’ popular book series, “The Murderbot Diaries.” For those who are not acquainted with the novels, Apple TV+ has provided a captivating summary of the story:
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, let me tell you about a fascinating sci-fi tale I recently came across – “Murderbot”. I’m captivated by this story of an autonomous security unit, played brilliantly by Skarsgård, who finds himself grappling with complex human emotions while at the same time yearning to protect its emotionally vulnerable charges. Despite its inherent desire for solitude, Murderbot is compelled to conceal its free will and complete a perilous mission. What it truly craves is some peace and quiet to indulge in futuristic soap operas and ponder its role in the cosmos.
We get it. We totally get it, Murderbot.
The series hails from the creative minds behind Chris and Paul Weitz, who are responsible for both writing and directing, as well as producing (notable works include “About a Boy” and “Mozart in the Jungle”). The cast includes David Dastmalchian (“Late Night with the Devil”), Noma Dumezweni (“Presumed Innocent”), Sabrina Wu (“Joy Ride”), Akshay Khanna (“Critical Incident”), Tattiawna Jones (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Tamara Podemski (Outer Range).
The inaugural season, consisting of ten episodes, will kick off with a double premiere. From that point on, fresh episodes will be made available every Friday, wrapping up on July 11th.
It would be ideal if no one disturbs Murderbot while he’s watching in solitude as it’s what he prefers. Just like us humans, he seeks peace and quietness too.
