Chloe Fineman admitted that her Harry Styles impersonation during SNL didn’t quite hit the mark, and it seems that the One Direction star himself wasn’t particularly taken with it either.
At the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live, during an interview with Amelia Dimoldenberg (known for her work on Chicken Shop Date), a member of the SNL cast reminisced about their attempt to portray the award-winning singer they had impersonated.
Fineman, renowned for her spot-on celebrity imitations, playfully attempted to mimic Dimoldenberg but confessed that her impression of the Matilda singer ranked among her least successful. She recalled this attempt when the singer was at an SNL table reading and highlighted his obvious disappointment.
Dimoldenberg asked, “Is there an impersonation you can’t crack?”
Straight away, Fineman quipped, “Harry Styles isn’t very good.” Despite her humorous delivery, it seemed Styles wasn’t amused. Fineman later described his reaction as “deep disappointment” over the inaccuracy in her portrayal.
She stated, “I completed the task, and he was seated at the table, deeply saddened by how poor the outcome was.” Even the comedian tried to mimic a quick British accent on the red carpet, chuckling at her failed attempt to perfect the impression.
In 2019, he was the host of Saturday Night Live. Additionally, he has graced the stage as a musical guest multiple times, both individually and with his previous band, One Direction.
The actor from Don’t Worry Darling has been involved in numerous eccentric skits on the show, such as Cut for Time: Jason, That’s the Game, Lunch Run, Baby Faye and Her Newsboys, Childbirth Class, Funeral DJs, Joan Song, Airline Pilots, and Sara Lee. Yet, he’s never been a part of a live sketch alongside Fineman. Therefore, it remains unclear which specific satire may have left him feeling displeased.
Although Harry Styles was not present at SNL’s 50th anniversary celebration, Chloe Fineman joined a host of SNL alumni who graced the event and attracted several high-profile celebrities. Notable musicians in attendance were Paul McCartney, Lil Wayne, Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter, Paul Simon, Brittany Howard, and The Roots.
