The humorous half-hour show titled “Mindy Kaling’s Not Suitable For Work” is now set to premiere on streaming platform Hulu. The production of this project is being handled by Warner Bros. Television.
As reported by Deadline, Mindy Kaling is currently working on and overseeing the production of a new series under a fresh multi-year agreement she recently sealed with Warner Bros. Television Group. Additionally, Kaling was awarded her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last Tuesday.
Originally known as Murray Hill, the series attracted multiple potential buyers before finally agreeing to a script-to-series contract with Hulu. Kaling’s frequent collaborator, Charlie Grandy, has been appointed as the showrunner for the project.
6 years ago, Kaling parted ways with NBCUniversal and signed a TV contract with Warner Bros., reportedly worth $8.5 million per year. With her current deal expiring in May 2025, Warner Bros. Television Group took the initiative to secure a renewal and finalized a multi-year extension last month.
Despite changes in the entertainment industry following the peak of total spending in 2019, major studios continue to back established creators like Mindy Kaling. Her ability to create and oversee successful shows demonstrates her value as a key creative figure. Under the recent deal, she will carry on producing projects exclusively for Warner Bros. Television.
After joining Warner Bros. Discovery, Kaling has jointly created “Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls,” starring on Netflix as “Running Point” with Kate Hudson, and most recently, “Not Suitable For Work.” Additionally, she is responsible for producing the animated series “Velma” and is in charge of a CBS multi-camera comedy project titled “Zarna.
Not Suitable For Work” follows the lives of five ambitious young adults in their twenties who juggle their careers and personal lives in Manhattan’s Murray Hill district. This television series is an expansion of Mindy Kaling’s exploration into the transition phase between youth and adulthood, building upon the success she has achieved with “Never Have I Ever” and “The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Kaling is set to launch her third show on Hulu, following The Mindy Project, which transitioned from Fox to Hulu after completing three seasons.
The comedy lineup on Hulu is further enriched by this series, joining the ranks with shows like Only Murders in the Building, Chad Powers, and the upcoming Deli Boys, along with other funny titles.
Besides her recent contract and upcoming television series, Kaling – who has just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame – is also renowned for her work in The Office (from 2005 to 2013), No Strings Attached (in 2011), Monsters at Work (debuting in 2021), and various other projects.
