Jay-Z has stated that the recently dismissed sexual assault lawsuit against him and Sean “Diddy” Combs, which reportedly cost him approximately 20 million dollars, was intentionally filed at a time to damage his reputation prior to the premiere of his and Beyoncé‘s daughter Blue Ivy in Mufasa: The Lion King.
The lawsuit, originally filed against Shawn Carter (also known as Jay-Z) and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, claimed they had sexually assaulted a minor in the year 2000 following the MTV Video Music Awards. However, on February 14, the case was dismissed permanently, having been voluntarily dropped by the plaintiff.
Despite this recent development, the legal dispute between Carter and Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, who represented Jane Doe, remains unresolved. As reported by Deadline, Carter’s court filing from February 10 claims that after Buzbee made his false allegations public, Carter’s company Roc Nation also lost potential contracts in the sports and entertainment industry worth approximately $20 million annually.
Carter argued that the allegations had a significant impact on both his professional ventures and private life. While his firm, Roc Nation, and its partnership with the NFL remained unchanged, it is said that other business agreements supposedly collapsed due to the high-profile nature of the court case.
Additionally, he discussed the coincidental timing of the accusations, which surfaced just a day before attending the Mufasa: The Lion King premiere alongside his wife Beyoncé and daughter Blue Ivy. He suggested that Buzbee had filed the lawsuit on the night of the event to put him in a difficult position, forcing him to either support his daughter or avoid the public eye. It was reported that Disney had doubts about his attendance at the occasion due to the allegations against him.
The legal dispute between them continues, as Carter has filed a lawsuit against Buzbee for defamation and extortion. This action stems from his claim that Buzbee failed to properly investigate Jane Doe’s allegations before publicly identifying him. In addition, Carter’s lawyers argue that Buzbee’s actions amounted to an attempt at coercion, pressuring the rapper (Apeshit) to settle and prevent a public scandal from arising.
Despite the recent dismissal of the lawsuit seeming to clear Jay Z’s name, a hearing on February 25th is still set in Los Angeles where his legal team continues their battle against claims they deem baseless and damaging to his reputation. Meanwhile, Sean Diddy Combs’ trial has been scheduled for May.
