HBO has changed its mind and will start posting clips from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on YouTube immediately, instead of waiting until Thursday as originally planned. Previously delayed due to the release schedule, these humorous and satirical clippings of John Oliver’s weekly news review will now be accessible on YouTube throughout the entire season.

Every Sunday after the episode premiere, I make sure to catch up on the clips that will be uploaded on YouTube at 3 a.m. ET the following day. In February 2024, the studio decided to postpone the release of next-day clips in an attempt to boost viewers who prefer streaming the full episode on their platform, Max.

Originally, it wasn’t straightforward for viewers to stream Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on Max, so they chose to post clip excerpts on their YouTube channel instead.

Initially, the studio opted to postpone making clips from the show available on YouTube, hoping it would persuade fans to view the full episodes on Max first. But now, HBO has changed its mind, meaning that clips will again be accessible on YouTube one day after their initial broadcast.

Yet, not releasing the next-day clip on Max earlier did not result in substantial increases in viewership, causing HBO to reconsider and change their decision.

For the 12th time around, Oliver’s unique news show has made a comeback, airing only on Max. In its opening episode, the presenter delves into the initial four weeks of Donald Trump’s second stint as President.
