John Mulaney Jokes, ‘It Amazes Me That Only Two’ of the SNL Hosts Have Committed Murders Amid Taping of the Anniversary Special

During the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live, John Mulaney and Steve Martin took on the opening monologue together. Notable stars and cast members from the comedy show participated in the festivities, while Mulaney provided plenty of laughs with his witty humor.

During his speech alongside the actor from “Only Murders in the Building”, the comedian humorously expressed his astonishment that out of the 894 Saturday Night Live hosts throughout history, just two of them had been involved in murder cases.

After the laughter subsided, audience members pondered whether the jest concerned Alec Baldwin. Yet, conjectures point towards the comedian making a reference to Robert Blake and O.J. Simpson instead.

In 1978, O.J. Simpson, famously known for his role in The Naked Gun, made an appearance on Saturday Night Live. However, he faced accusations of the tragic deaths of his former wife and her companion later on. He was indicted for murder but eventually found not guilty. In 2024, at the age of 76, O.J. Simpson passed away.

Regarding Blake, it was alleged that he fired the gun which killed his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. Previously known as the host of Saturday Night Live, he was acquitted of the charges. He sadly passed away at the age of 89 in the year 2023.

While filming his movie, Rust, Baldwin unintentionally discharged a firearm, leading to accusations of involuntary manslaughter. Tragically, one of the crew members, Halyna Hutchins, was fatally wounded by the bullet.

1) The actor found himself among the spectators while Mulaney delivered the punchline. Known for his frequent hosting stints, Baldwin has taken over the spotlight a total of 17 times on that particular show.
