At the BAFTA Awards 2025, Kieren Culkin wins the Best Supporting Actor prize for his performance in the buddy comedy-drama titled “A Real Pain.” Jesse Eisenberg, the film’s writer and director, received the award as Culkin was unable to attend the event.
The movie chronicles the travels of cousins David (Eisenberg) and Benji (Culkin) as they embark on a Jewish ancestry tour across Poland, paying tribute to their grandmother who passed away, all while dealing with their contrasting personalities. Notably, Culkin has previously been awarded at the Golden Globes for his acting in A Real Pain.
Eisenberg humorously commented during his acceptance speech for his co-star’s award, “Hey, thank you once more. This marks the fifth time I’ve accepted an award on Kieran’s behalf, and it only reinforces my belief that we live parallel lives; his just seems to be 50% more fantastic than mine.
Simultaneously, Zoe Saldaña was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Rita Mora Castro, a lawyer, in Jacques Audiard’s musical film Emilia Pérez. Notably, Karla Sofía Gascón plays a powerful cartel leader who reveals her identity as a trans woman in the movie.
As I graciously accepted my award, I expressed my heartfelt gratitude to Bafta. This project was an unparalleled creative challenge that left me pondering – how does one embark on a film that transcends traditional categorization? The answer lies in taking the plunge with Jacques Audiard. I’d like to extend my warmest thanks to my exceptional co-stars for their invaluable collaboration throughout this journey.
She stated, “Movies should stir emotions and provoke thought, and I hope I managed to do so. It’s important for voices to be heard, yet sometimes it’s my accent that holds me back.
At the 97th Academy Awards, Golden Globe winner Zoe Saldaña has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, while Emilia Pérez leads with a total of 13 nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Gascón.
