Actor Jacob Elordi (from Euphoria) has announced he will take on a significant role in the Justin Kurzel-directed series titled The Narrow Road to the Deep North. During a press conference at the Berlin Film Festival on February 15, he shared that his character is a war prisoner.

To accurately depict the character’s authentic traits, Elordi needed to reflect his scruffy and frail physique, which resulted in him shedding some pounds. The actor described this process as a “very soothing experience” since he was able to go through it alongside his fellow actors, whom he fondly refers to as “the lads.

Through their shared experience, the actor from Saltburn explained that they all felt an overwhelming sense of tranquility enveloping them. This serenity led them to a profound level of affection that surpassed the ordinary. Being devoid of everything around them facilitated a deeper, human connection between them.

In essence, what seemed significant to them was regularly checking on each other’s health and occasionally sharing jellybeans. He further stated that it was far from a painful ordeal. Elordi appreciated having this experience alongside his companions.

The narrative stemms from Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning book, sharing the same title. It centers around Dorrigo Evans, a doctor imprisoned as a Japanese POW, who is compelled to labor on the Thai-Burma railway.

The main character is persistently tormented by recollections of his past, particularly the period when he was involved with Amy, who was married to his uncle. As per the summary, the storyline will traverse multiple decades, chronicling Evans’s transformation from a soldier to a captive, then back to a hero of war, and eventually an accomplished surgeon and unwilling public figure.

Elordi gained fame with his standout performance in the popular HBO show Euphoria. He maintained his popularity by appearing in the provocative yet praised series Saltburn, portraying Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, and starring in the Netflix Kissing Booth movies, among several other projects.
