The popular Netflix series Stranger Things is gearing up for its farewell with season 5, and the villainous character portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower, known as Vecna or Henry Creel, is also drawing to a close. The actor has shared that taking on darker roles can have a negative impact on his psychological well-being.
On February 9th, the actor made an appearance at MegaCon Orlando, Florida, where he talked about his choice to step away from portraying non-heroic characters for a while.
In a group conversation, Bower openly acknowledged his tendency to be cast as villains, yet he’s open to forgoing these roles temporarily, desiring a break from the villainous stereotype.
The actor remembered a very serious talk with his therapist during which she suggested he should find time for personal relaxation amidst his upcoming filming schedule. It was then that he revealed to her that he didn’t feel like playing a villain anymore.
He confessed that it’s had a significant impact on him. To make this clear, he emphasized that he was speaking sincerely. Bower shared that being part of the acclaimed Netflix series in its fourth season has been an extraordinary experience for him. He went on to say that he enjoys and still relishes portraying his vengeful character within the show.
At this stage, he’s prepared to retire his rubber suit and bid him a slimy goodbye. This horror series, which unfolds in the ’80s Indiana setting, follows a band of youthful companions as they explore eerie phenomena and clandestine government activities related to the supernatural.
Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink make up the beloved group of pre-teens who play pivotal roles in the story. Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Maya Hawke round out this dynamic cast.
According to co-creator Matt Duffer, the long-awaited fifth and concluding season of the series has been labeled “grand and spectacular.” Additionally, Ross, the other Duffer brother, stated that the season represents the “largest” scale yet for the franchise.
Stranger Things season 5 is expected to release in late 2025.
