Taylor Swift Tried to Block SNL’s Bad Blood Spoof; Lorne Michaels Hilariously Declined Her Request: ‘We Don’t Negotiate…’

Lorne Michaels has revealed that Taylor Swift requested him to cut a Saturday Night Live skit poking fun at her famous circle of friends, known as the girl squad. However, he chose not to comply with this request.

In a recent chat with Vulture, the creator of SNL recalled proposing to Taylor Swift’s management in 2015 that she make a surprise appearance. The skit they proposed was a parody of her “girl squad” seen in the Bad Blood music video, reimagined as an apocalyptic cult called the ‘Dope Squad’.

Later on, Swift reached out to him privately to ask him to scrap the skit, but he decided to continue with it despite her objections. It is said that in response to her request, he told her he “won’t bargain with intimidators.

In 2015, a drawing was unveiled, introducing Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s unique version of the “Dope Squad”. This special squad included guest spots from Amy Schumer and Gayle King, among others.

In 2015, there was a drawing showing Tina Fey and Amy Poehler forming their own fun group called the “Dope Squad”. They were joined by Amy Schumer, Gayle King, and others.

Michaels said to Swift, “Taylor, I do not negotiate with terrorists.”

The parody was based on the concept of Taylor Swift’s music video, which showcased her elite team – Selena Gomez, Zendaya, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne – as a squad of futuristic space soldiers. Other stars like Jessica Alba, Hailee Steinfeld, Hayley Williams, Lily Aldridge, Ellen Pompeo, Cindy Crawford, and others were featured in Swift’s popular music video.

Despite initially objecting, Swift eventually seemed to find amusement in the joke. Later, she sent Michaels a bouquet of flowers, accompanied by a note: “I hope there are no hard feelings left.

Initially, Swift resisted the parody, but it didn’t appear to affect her bond with SNL in a significant way, as she eventually chose to go along with the humor instead.

It was clear that her reconciliation was ongoing, as she frequently appeared on the live comedy-sketch show. Notable examples include her roles as the musical guest in 2017, 2019, and 2021. Moreover, Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance in 2023 to introduce Ice Spice’s performance.
