Known for his chilling masterpieces like “The Haunting of Hill House” and “Doctor Sleep,” the talented Mike Flanagan has penned the script. Although he won’t be behind the camera due to prior obligations, DC is on a mission to find a director who can faithfully translate Flanagan’s unique blend of emotional and psychological horror onto the silver screen.
Wadlow excels at creating supernatural horror that resonates with diverse viewers, as demonstrated by films such as “Truth or Dare” and “Fantasy Island.” Conversely, Watkins, renowned for his intense, ominous horror works like “Eden Lake” and “The Woman in Black,” would infuse the movie with a grittier, more atmospheric feel.
In this revised project by James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Matt Reeves, we can anticipate a fresh perspective on the iconic Batman antagonist. The version of Clayface that will appear won’t strictly adhere to the comic book counterpart, but it will emphasize an emotionally charged narrative, aligning well with Flanagan’s established filmmaking style.
Flanagan’s work will establish the foundation, but it is crucial that the director maintains the balance between psychological complexity and chilling horror that fans anticipate. Filming for the movie commences in 2025, with a scheduled release date of September 11, 2026.
