Did It Ends With Us Author Colleen Hoover Pick a Side Amid Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively Feud? Instagram Return Fuels Questions

Renowned writer Colleen Hoover has returned to Instagram following a brief absence from social networks. Her account was inactive as of January 22, 2025, amid escalating legal disputes among the actors of her novel “It Ends with Us,” namely Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

On February 12, 2025, Colleen Hoover reappeared on Instagram, a fact not lost on her followers. However, it wasn’t just her return that piqued their interest; the absence of photos featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the stars of the It Ends with Us film, from her profile also sparked curiosity, as reported by People magazine.

The transformation occurred during a challenging period, with Lively and Baldoni finding themselves embroiled in a prolonged legal battle centered around accusations of sexual misconduct and slander.

In the movie adaptation of Hoover’s 2016 novel, released in August 2024, Lively portrayed Lily Bloom, while Baldoni starred as Ryle Kincaid. Notably, Baldoni was also the director for this film.

Four months post the movie’s premiere, events took an unexpected and grave shift. On December 20, 2024, I found myself in a situation where I had to file a sexual harassment claim against Justin Baldoni. This was far from the glamour and excitement of our shared professional journey.

She alleged that he engaged in wrongdoing while making the movie. Additionally, she asserted that Baldoni’s production team initially agreed to enforce work safety measures but subsequently betrayed her by launching a defamatory campaign against her.

After Blake Lively expressed her concerns, Johnny Depp (Hoover in this context) publicly acknowledged his appreciation for the actress on December 21st via an Instagram Story. His post read: “@blakelively, you’ve consistently been honest, kind, supportive, and patient since our first encounter. Thank you for remaining exactly who you are – unique and unwavering. May you never change or falter.” The message was accompanied by a picture of Depp and Lively at a movie premiere.

In response to Lively’s allegations, Baldoni swiftly initiated his own legal proceedings. On December 31, 2024, he filed a lawsuit worth $250 million against The New York Times, charging the publication with defamation and privacy violations. This lawsuit was filed shortly after the publication of an article titled “We Can Bury Anyone: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine,” which appeared on December 21.

On January 16, 2025, Baldoni brought a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist. He alleged that they had defamed him, extorted money from him, and made other unspecified claims. Freedman, his attorney, declared, “We will disclose all the evidence to demonstrate a repeated pattern of intimidation and threats aimed at seizing control over film production.

The court case continues and a preliminary meeting was held on February 3, 2025. Judge Lewis J. Liman suggested that neither party should talk about this matter publicly. The trial has been set for March 9, 2026.
