It’s been almost twenty years since we last saw him, but it seems that John Constantine, played by Keanu Reeves, could make a comeback on the movie screens!
Back in November 2012, movie director Guillermo del Toro agreed to create a film based on Justice League Dark, focusing on DC Comics’ mystical heroes like John Constantine. More recently, in November 2020, actor Peter Stormare suggested that a follow-up might be under production by posting about it on Instagram. Nevertheless, neither Warner Bros. nor Reeves have officially verified this claim yet.
By 2023, director Francis Lawrence unveiled his ongoing work on concepts for the eagerly awaited sequel, featuring none other than Keanu Reeves. Yet, whenever they managed to materialize something substantial, shifts in DC Studios’ management hindered their momentum.
According to Francis Lawrence, the sequel to “Constantine” titled “Constantine 2” is edging nearer than before! He, along with Keanu Reeves and producer Akiva Goldsman, have been tirelessly developing a concept that has them brimming with enthusiasm.
In spite of numerous obstacles over the years, the movie continues to be a heartfelt endeavor for Lawrence, and he assures us that they have an exciting and innovative idea brewing. Furthermore, he notes that the project is currently in the strongest state possible as it approaches production.
We’re almost at the point where we can move forward with a follow-up, which is fantastic news! Akiva, Keanu, and I are beyond thrilled about this upcoming project.
Following much creative thinking, Lawrence and his crew have ultimately found a solution to the plotline. They’ve delved into recently published comics since the initial film, yet are primarily crafting the sequel based on their long-held passion for the character and universe, drawing upon ideas they’ve nurtured in their minds for two decades.
After examining numerous comics throughout the years and brainstorming, I can tell you that our concept primarily stems from our personal connection with the character and the universe, which has been growing in our minds for about two decades. We’ve been subconsciously gathering ideas, stories, and characters we adore, allowing them to simmer and evolve over time.
