Netflix Japan Slate Revealed: 5 Shows To Check Out Including Badly in Love, Final Draft And More

2025 promises an intriguing selection of shows on Netflix Japan. This year, we’ve seen 10Dance, Romantics Anonymous, and Alice in Borderline join their release schedule. More excitingly, three new unscripted series have been recently announced to be included as well.

During a Netflix gathering on February 12th, it was revealed that three new productions – Final Draft, Badly in Love, and Welcome Now – will join the platform’s Japanese lineup. Among these is Final Draft, which marks Netflix’s debut into survival reality shows, focusing on former professional athletes.

In difficult challenges akin to the impossible, the competitors will battle it out among themselves to secure the grand prize of 30 million yen. This exciting spectacle is being brought to you by Far Eastern TV Entertainment Inc., with Kazuaki Hashimoto at the helm as the show’s executive producer.

The unscripted reality show titled “Badly in Love,” marketed as a “strikingly genuine romance reality show,” offers an unusual take on dating series. Unlike typical dating shows, it explores how far the participants, who cherish their friendships and hometowns deeply, are willing to go for their significant others.

This comedy gem revolves around comedians finding themselves in a village that’s less than welcoming, but they somehow manage to make a go of it and bring laughter to our lives!

Instead of trying their best to make everyone’s stay uncomfortable, Koji Higashino will be the host for the series alongside director and producer, Sakuma. Furthermore, Netflix’s Japanese lineup for 2025 features an unscripted show selection, as well as a period drama titled Last Samurai Standing.

As per the statement made by Kaata Sakamoto, who oversees content for Netflix Japan, the upcoming series will delve into the decline of the Samurai class towards the closing stages of the Edo period. In a playful hint, Sakamoto suggested that the show could be likened to a blend between “Shōgun” and “Squid Game.
