Recently, it was revealed that filmmaker Nolan’s enigmatic future endeavor is a cinematic interpretation of ‘The Odyssey.’ Universal Pictures has disclosed that Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming film will be a worldwide action spectacle inspired by Homer’s ‘The Odyssey,’ employing cutting-edge IMAX technology, and slated for release on July 17, 2026.
This upcoming film boasts a highly talented ensemble of actors such as Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron. Production is slated to kick off in early 2025, with Christopher Nolan penning and producing the project together with Emma Thomas under their Syncopy label.
One of the most ancient narratives that continues to captivate readers is Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’. This timeless work recounts the adventures of the legendary Greek hero, Odysseus, as he embarks on a difficult voyage back to his homeland following the Trojan War.
Multiple sources suggest that in contrast to his previous works, which often maintain a sense of realism, even in science fiction genres, Nolan is expected to stick to the more fantastical elements present in The Odyssey. This marks a departure from his usual approach.
It’s being reported that upcoming scenes featuring the character Polyphemus, the Cyclops, are set to be filmed at Nestor Cave and Voidokilia Beach in Greece from March 13th to March 20th, 2025.
Inside Nestor’s Cave, we’ll build a massive, 6×6 meter mechanical puppet replica of Polyphemus. This temporary structure will be created using portable materials, so it won’t leave any permanent mark on the cave. To safeguard the natural site, we’ll employ protective methods like geotextile and sand layers to minimize any potential damage during construction.
Filming preparations started in February, with tasks such as cleaning and making safe the entrance to Nestor Cave being carried out.
