Reese Witherspoon’s company, Hello Sunshine, along with Amazon MGM Studios, are nearing a decision on who will take on the role of the young Elle Woods for their upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series. Reese Witherspoon originally played Woods in the iconic 2001 film.
According to Deadline, both Madison Wolfe (from True Detective and Mayfair Witches) and Lexi Minetree (The Murdaugh Murders) are believed to have tried out for a role in an upcoming project. It’s suggested that a decision regarding the casting may be made soon. Amazon MGM Studios and Hello Sunshine, however, declined to provide further details on the ongoing auditions related to this story.
Recently, Witherspoon discussed audition experiences on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, expressing that she has watched “numerous video submissions” and finds it “entertaining to view them.” She disclosed that the Netflix show Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, sparked her idea for a prequel series featuring Elle.
Reese Witherspoon expresses her eagerness to delve back into Elle Woods’ childhood days and uncover the character’s storyline prior to college attendance and legal education. She praised the finalists, stating, “I simply adore them all so much, and they’re doing an outstanding job.
Through her portrayal of Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon achieved widespread recognition in Hollywood. She beautifully brought this role to life in both the original film, Legally Blonde (2001), and its sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003). As a result, Elle Woods has become an enduring symbol of pop culture.
Wolf and Minetree share similarities with Witherspoon and are both expanding their acting repertoires. Wolf’s resume includes roles in Mayfair Witches, True Detective, and The Conjuring 2, while Minetree has been featured on The Murdaugh Murders, Law & Order: SVU, and My Amish Double Life.
Laura Kittrell serves as the primary creative force behind the production, with the upcoming series focusing on the storyline of Elle Woods during her high school years, covering the time period before she graduated from college and later attended Harvard Law School as depicted in Legally Blonde (2001).
