Cineverse has recently entered into a fresh partnership with Davis-Panzer Productions, obtaining the digital rights for the Highlander series. This arrangement enlarges Cineverse’s streaming collection, making Highlander movies and shows accessible on platforms such as Cineverse, Midnight Pulp, and various other digital platforms.
In addition, Cineverse has recently taken ownership of the remake of The Toxic Avenger featuring Peter Dinklage, and they put out the highly successful film Terrifier 3 just last year.
What’s Included in the Deal?
The multi-year, multi-territory agreement covers nine movie and television titles. This includes:
- The original Highlander film (1986) starring Sean Connery, Christopher Lambert, and Clancy Brown
- All six seasons of Highlander: The Series starring Adrian Paul
- The spin-off series Highlander: The Raven starring Elizabeth Gracen
Furthermore, Cineverse acquires the digital rights for additional Davis-Panzer productions, including “Cat Chaser,” “O’Hara’s Wife,” “The Osterman Weekend,” “St. Helens,” and “Steel.
Highlander’s Legacy and Future
The Highlander series debuted in 1986, featuring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery as they introduced viewers to the immortal character Connor MacLeod. The movie’s success paved the way for multiple sequels and a TV show that ran from 1992 to 1998. Not only did the film gain popularity, but phrases like “There can be only one!” and Queen’s “Princes of the Universe” theme song have also become iconic catchphrases.
Development is underway at Lionsgate for a fresh take on the franchise, with “John Wick” director Chad Stahelski at the helm and Henry Cavill (“Man of Steel,” “The Witcher”) cast in a leading role. Filming is expected to commence shortly in Scotland.
