Ariana Grande REVEALS in Wicked: For Good Characters Are Going to ‘Bear the Repercussions’ of Their Choices

Ariana Grande is building excitement for the sequel of “Wicked,” suggesting it will deviate from the 2024 hit musical film! On February 9, the popular singer participated in a Q&A session at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where she shared her thoughts with the audience, moderated by Dave Karger.

In the recently released Wicked film adaptation, Grandé, who portrayed Glinda opposite Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba, hinted at the eagerly awaited sequel, describing it as a particularly moving and unique experience to shoot.

Speaking as a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement about the upcoming sequel! This time around, it’s going to be more than just a story; it’s going to embody pure love and enduring friendship. And let me tell you, Wicked: For Good is going to be nothing like what we’ve seen on the big screen recently. It’s set to be quite a unique experience!

2024’s Wicked, based on the successful Broadway play, centers around Elphaba (played by Erivo) uncovering her value and magical talents. An unexpected friendship develops between her and Glinda, a renowned student at Shiz University in the Land of Oz.

After meeting the Marvelous Magician of Oz, their bond faces a turning point, as suggested in the synopsis. Regarding the sequel, Grande hinted that the characters will face consequences due to their actions in the initial film.

Instead of reaching its peak, the first movie established the storyline; on the other hand, “Wicked: For Good” will delve into the consequences that unfold post-events, shedding light on their eventual decline. The previous “Wicked” concluded with Elphaba, played by Erivo, and Glinda, portrayed by Grande, parting ways, with Defying Gravity serving as a memorable finale.

The upcoming sequel will focus on Act II and the thrilling culmination of the acclaimed musical. Director Jon M. Chu, who was at the event, invites the audience to anticipate the development of Glinda and Elphaba’s friendship. He hinted that if you admire those two characters, you should be excited to see where their bond unfolds.

Wicked: For Good is slated to release on November 21, 2025.
