Why Was Nick Jonas Cast As Luther in Prime Video’s You’re Cordially Invited? Nicholas Stoller Says: ‘Wanted A Sexy…’

Nick Jonas’s short role in You’re Cordially Invited is among the most impressive aspects of the film. In retrospect, the choice to cast Nick Jonas was disclosed by writer and director Nicholas Stoller, who shared how this came to pass.

During their chat, the director was questioned by Collider regarding the genesis of the concept involving one Jonas brother performing a Creed track (specifically “With Arms Wide Open”) in the film for those not familiar with it.

Stoller replied, “I had an amusing thought: I wanted a charismatic clergy member.” He further explained, “The concept was intriguing – having two pastors symbolizing the struggle between Reese and her mother.

Originally, he proposed showcasing merely a charismatic pastor, akin to an actor, for the role. However, it was ultimately Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell, who had a personal connection with the musician, that suggested his name to the director.

Stoller also commented, “They suggested using Nick Jonas’ name, to which I replied something like, ‘If you manage to bring in Nick Jonas, that would be fantastic!'” The filmmaker went on to say that Jonas agreed promptly and visited for a few days, fitting it into his hectic schedule.

Stoller found Jonas incredibly amusing, mentioning that he was exceptionally willing to participate (or “go along”). The director shared a memory of himself awkwardly posing a query to him.

At one point, I approached him and felt a bit jittery. I asked, “May we splash water on you as if you’ve just fallen off the pier?” To which he replied, “Sure, go ahead. Your call.” He was more than happy to oblige. He was fantastic and had a great sense of humor.

You can stream the movie featuring Reese Witherspoon, Ferrell, Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, Jimmy Tatro, Celia Weston, and others on Amazon Prime Video.
