In a delightful twist, the combination of Vikings and dragons seems like an irresistible proposition! Universal Pictures is banking on this fascination with their upcoming live-action remake of “How To Train Your Dragon.” The Super Bowl trailer hints that this bet might just pay off, making us anticipate “How to Train Your Dragon” even more. Despite the intense battles, the Isle of Berk and its unique camaraderie continue to tug at our heartstrings as they did before.

On Sundays, considered a major event for movie previews and entertaining advertisements, even live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” joined the festivities this time around. This newest sneak peek at “How to Train Your Dragon” offers fresh action scenes and characters alongside footage we’ve seen before in earlier trailers. With each glimpse we get of this movie, our faith in director Dean DeBlois, who also led the animated films, grows stronger that he has successfully brought the magical world of Berk to life.
In the trailers for How to Train Your Dragon, it appears he’s got a real-life replica of Toothless, the animated dragon from DreamWorks Animation’s film. While some might find this odd, fans of the series would never object to any incarnation of that adorable young dragon. If you haven’t seen How to Train Your Dragon yet, let me share the official synopsis from Universal Pictures:
“From the creators of Shrek comes a heartwarming tale about a Viking named Hiccup who defies tradition by befriending Toothless, a fearsome Night Fury dragon he rescues from a crash landing. As Hiccup and Toothless form an unlikely friendship, they both learn valuable lessons about courage, trust, and the true meaning of friendship.
In the rugged island of Berk, steeped in generations of Viking-dragon feuds, I, Hiccup, son of the mighty Chief Stoick the Vast, find myself at odds with tradition. Instead of joining the fight against the feared Night Fury dragon, Toothless, I befriend him, unveiling a side of dragons hitherto unknown and shaking the core of our Viking society. With my brave companion Astrid and the eccentric blacksmith Gobber by my side, I navigate through a world ridden with fear and misconception. As an ancient danger looms over us, threatening both Vikings and dragons alike, my bond with Toothless becomes instrumental in shaping a new future. Together, we must tread carefully on the path towards peace, soaring beyond our known realms and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.
In the human adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon,” I find myself stepping into the shoes of Hiccup, portrayed by Mason Thames. Nico Parker takes on the role of Astrid, while Nick Frost assumes the character of Gobber. Notably, Gerard Butler reprises his animated role as Stoic in this live-action version as well. The teaser trailers introduce us to these characters and more from the world of “How to Train Your Dragon.
This movie includes Julian Dennison from Deadpool 2, Gabriel Howell known for Bodies, Bronwyn James recognized in Wicked, Harry Trevaldwyn famous for Smothered, Ruth Codd starring in The Midnight Club, Peter Serafinowicz who has worked in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Murray McArthur, a cast member of The Rings of Power.
The real-life adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon” is set to take flight (and sail) in cinemas this coming summer on June 13, 2025. Given the strong emotional impact of its promotional materials, it seems likely that Universal Studios will be reaping substantial profits when it arrives.
