Sigourney Weaver Wants Anya Taylor-Joy in Avatar: ‘There’s Nothing She Can’t Do!’

Sigourney Weaver is widely recognized for portraying powerful sci-fi heroines, with appearances in some of the most legendary cinematic franchises ever created, such as Alien, Avatar, and her forthcoming role in Star Wars’ The Mandalorian and Grogu.

In a new science fiction project, Apple TV is releasing “The Gorge” on Valentine’s Day. This movie tells the story of two skilled snipers stationed at opposite ends of an unfathomable, impassable chasm. Unbeknownst to them, there are mysteries hidden beneath their positions. Sigourney Weaver and Anya Taylor-Joy share the screen, with Taylor-Joy embodying characters similar to ones that Weaver previously portrayed.

Regardless of the presence of a well-known science fiction icon on set, Weaver acknowledges that Taylor-Joy doesn’t require any guidance when taking on such a role.

Anya Taylor-Joy requires no advice from me to portray her characters,” Weaver stated. “Her character, Drasa, is exceptionally unique. She immerses herself fully in the role, playing it with remarkable enthusiasm and conviction. It’s clear that she’s enjoying every moment of embodying Drasa.

Drasa isn’t your ordinary character; she’s an exceptionally skilled and fearless Lithuanian sniper who exhibits a formidable presence, as described by Weaver: “She’s truly remarkable.” Taylor-Joy’s portrayal of her evokes the spirit of powerful female warriors seen in James Cameron’s Avatar films. Weaver expressed hope that Cameron would watch The Gorge, stating, “I believe he’d admire Drasa as a character.” In Weaver’s opinion, Drasa embodies the tradition of strong and fearless women established by characters like Neytiri in Cameron’s work.

It is anticipated that Sigourney Weaver will reappear in upcoming sequels, with ‘Avatar 3’ being one of them. Is it possible that Anya Taylor-Joy could be the next prominent actor to collaborate with James Cameron on his hit franchise? Given her skills, Weaver herself endorses this idea, stating, “I’ve admired her work since The Witch and then The Queen’s Gambit. I am convinced she has no limits.
