The production of Shogun season 2 is progressing since co-creator Justin Marks has confirmed that the scripts have been fully written. This FX historical drama, inspired by James Clavell’s novel, was initially conceived as a limited series but received an extension for two additional seasons due to its popularity.
At the Critics Choice Awards, Marks shared that the writers have completed their work, and now the preparations for the production are being made.
Marks shared that they are now exiting the writers’ room and have completed the ten episodes, including the finale. This development allows them to begin planning the filming process. Additionally, he hinted at some surprising turns in store for season 2.
Mark suggested that viewers might find themselves pleasantly shocked by unexpected elements right from the start of the second season, as he put it: “What I believe is most noteworthy is that people should be surprised by some of the major concepts already in the premiere episode of part two.
As a connoisseur of lifestyle and entertainment, allow me to share my thoughts on the captivating first season of “Shōgun.” This spellbinding adaptation, remarkably faithful to James Clavell’s masterpiece, centers around an English sailor named John Blackthorne, brilliantly portrayed by Cosmo Jarvis. The story also delves deeply into the life of the powerful daimyo, Lord Toranaga, brought to vibrant life by Hiroyuki Sanada. In essence, “Shōgun” Season 1 offers an immersive journey into the intricate tapestry of their lives during feudal Japan.
Since there’s no second novel serving as a guide, it’s anticipated that season 2 will present fresh narratives. Additionally, Marks has suggested they might be thinking about additional stories, possibly pointing towards potential seasons past the currently confirmed season 3.
Hiroyuki Sanada, known for his role as Lord Toranaga, has been officially confirmed to reprise his character and take on a producing role as well. The creative team is collaborating closely with him to maintain authenticity and respect for history and culture in the upcoming second season.
It’s still unclear which additional actors will rejoin for the next season, but we can expect further announcements as filming progresses. Considering the tremendous success of the initial season, the showmakers are probably being meticulous to preserve the top-notch quality that the series has established.
After finishing up with the scripts, it’s time for us to start organizing for the production phase. Mark hasn’t set a filming schedule yet, but since season 1 took over a year to film due to its intricate historical background and practical effects, it’s reasonable to expect that season 2 might need just as much time. This means we’re still unsure about when it will be released.
