For years, we’ve been catching whispers about a possible sequel to “The Goonies.” Yet, these rumors frequently resurface and are swiftly dismissed by one or more of the original cast members. However, there was a mini-version of a “Goonies” gathering recently, albeit for a different movie altogether. Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan is featured in “Love Hurts,” an upcoming action comedy. Interestingly, another former Goonie, Sean Astin, is also starring in this film. This marks their first collaboration on a project in four decades. The reunion took on an emotional hue when Jeff Cohen, who played Chunk, dropped by the set. Although he’s no longer acting, Cohen serves as Ke Huy Quan’s entertainment attorney. Fortunately, cameras were present to capture this heartwarming “Regoonian” moment, which you can view right here:
Stepping into the realm of film criticism, let me share my thoughts on the upcoming flick “Love Hurts,” which features not only two beloved stars from the classic film “Goonies,” but also Ariana DeBose, Daniel Wu, Marshawn Lynch, Mustafa Shakir, Cam Gigandet, André Eriksen, and Lio Tiptony. The mere presence of these familiar faces has sparked whispers about a potential real sequel to “Goonies.” However, with the passing of director Richard Donner, the dream seemed distant. Yet, Warner Bros. has recently announced their determination to continue the “Goonies” saga. Will it be a continuation, revisiting our favorite childhood heroes? Or will it be a fresh start, introducing a new generation of goonies? The anticipation is palpable!
If we had to predict its potential format, it could be a “sequel-remake,” or more specifically, a blend of reboot and sequel featuring a new group of kids whose parents are the original Goonies. Although it would be delightful if the entire cast reunited for a continuation (looking at you, Josh Brolin), we’d also be content with just the main quartet consisting of Ke Huy Quan, Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen, and Corey Feldman. If such a project ever materializes, that is. For now, you can catch Sean Astin and Key Huy Quan together on the big screen when “Love Hurts” hits theaters on February 7th.
