That’s All, Folks: Multiversus to go offline May 30

I regretfully share the news that Multiversus, the platform fighter by Warner Bros., will not return after its final departure. The initial launch and subsequent relaunch in May 2024 generated much enthusiasm, but unfortunately, it couldn’t maintain a consistent player base. With Warner Bros. revealing losses exceeding $100 million on this project, it became challenging to envision any other outcome for this animated game.

Warner Bros. announced that the upcoming fifth season of the game is its finale, introducing its last pair of characters – Aquaman and Lola Bunny. Before May 30th, you can download it for offline play, and do remember to download the last game update as well.

We’d like to express our sincere gratitude to every player and supporter of MultiVersus,” stated WB Games. “Behind the scenes, our teams at Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games have dedicated countless hours and emotions into creating this game. We are deeply moved by the unwavering support from the MultiVersus community during our journey.

In my opinion, the game had exciting combat, but the microtransactions made it less enjoyable. If any future game removes itself from the market, returns a year later, and then becomes successful, that will be a first. It’s unfortunate because no other game lets you play as LeBron James and bounce a basketball off the Iron Giant’s head.

Despite the news that Season 5 marks the end, both Aquaman and Lola still need to be obtained. The Sea King will be available in the Battle Pass, while Lola can be earned through the daily login rewards. It’s another surprising decision from a game that has largely declined due to its microtransactions.

Multiversus includes four distinct types of currencies, which seems unnecessary for a video game. Typically, we play games to enjoy them, not to manage multiple economies unless it’s a specific trading simulation. However, the enjoyable combat in Multiversus is overshadowed by the most frustrating aspects of free-to-play gaming.
