My Hero Academia: Vigilantes

The widely beloved “My Hero Academia” universe is growing with a brand new anime titled, “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” scheduled to debut on April 7, 2025. This spin-off and prequel to the original series unfolds five years prior to the main storyline and introduces a new leading character alongside some recognizable faces.

Anticipation has grown as more information unfolds. This week, we’ve got some exciting news: the official website for “Vigilantes” and Japanese news source “Comic Natalie” have both announced that a few notable voice actors from the original series will be returning to their roles!

Relieving news for fans who were apprehensive about possible cast alterations: The voice actors behind All Might (Kenta Miyake), Eraser Head (Junichi Suwabe), Present Mic (Hiroyuki Yoshino), Midnight (Akeno Watanabe), and Ingenium (Kaito Ishikawa) will all reprise their roles. This assures us that these cherished characters will be part of the upcoming series, even though the narrative spotlight has moved to a new central character.

Besides the original cast members coming back, we have some exciting new voices joining the series! Shuichiro Umeda is set to voice Koichi Haimawari (aka The Crawler), Ikumi Hasegawa will play Pop Step, and Yasuhiro Mamiya will breathe life into Knuckle Duster.

The series is being overseen by Kenichi Suzuki for direction, while Yosuke Kuroda manages the writing. BONES FILM is responsible for the animation’s production, maintaining the top-notch visuals that viewers have grown accustomed to.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, derived from the manga by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court, chronicles the life of Koichi Haimawari, a young individual who doesn’t possess the necessary credentials to be a professional hero. He employs his humble powers in small acts of kindness towards people, until he intersects with the unrefined Knuckle Duster.

In unison, they confront crooks and expose a hazardous narcotic known as Trigger, a substance that amplifies powers but comes at the price of one’s mental stability. Unlike the rule-abiding superheroes from My Hero Academia, Koichi and his comrades work covertly, sometimes bending the rules to combat injustice.

Although we know the Japanese voice actors are set, it’s still unclear if the English dub voice cast will be back. Since this series is quite popular, there’s a strong possibility that well-known voice actors might return, but we’ll need to await an official statement for confirmation.

The manga titled “Vigilantes” first appeared in 2016 and continued until 2022, concluding with a total of 15 volumes. Now, an anime version is poised to present a fresh audience with the rough and tumble world of secret protectors.
