Previously, George R.R. Martin expressed strong opinions about “House of the Dragon”, voicing several concerns in an emotional post. However, it appears his issues are solely focused on the Dance of the Dragons storyline. On the contrary, he’s thrilled with HBO’s upcoming “Game of Thrones” spinoff series, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms“. Following a viewing of the first season, Martin penned a positive post on his blog, expressing his satisfaction with this adaptation of his cherished characters.
George R.R. Martin announced that the initial six-episode season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been completed, and he expressed genuine delight with what he witnessed. In a post on “Not a Blog” titled “Dunk, Egg, Some Random Thoughts,” he applauded the show’s creators and actors for successfully adapting his first Dunk and Egg novella, The Hedge Knight, into reality. He also shared why these characters hold special significance to him, as they played a vital role in increasing the popularity of his A Song of Ice and Fire book series by introducing new readers to his fantasy universe.
The most noteworthy news, particularly for readers, revolves around his comments regarding the show’s portrayal of his story. If you’re a fan of accurate adaptations, offer your praises to the gods, old and new. George R.R. Martin expresses that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is “as faithful an adaptation as a reasonable person could expect (and you’re all aware of how incredibly reasonable I am on this matter).
Good line, George. Good line.
From a dedicated cinephile like myself, I can’t quite pinpoint the exact release date for this highly-anticipated adaptation, but Martin hinted that we might get to witness it on HBO towards the end of this year. Fingers crossed, it could be in the fall!
As for what happens next, both for the spinoff series and him, Martin finished with this:
In the meantime, we’ll transition to “The Sworn Sword,” which is the second story about Dunk & Egg. After wrapping up “The Winds of Winter,” I’ll have to get busy with “The Village Hero” and all the other stories that are in store for them. Don’t fret, you can count on you to remind me.
We’re thrilled about this update, and for a while, we plan on savoring it by holding onto hope that he will complete “The Winds of Winter”. In the meantime, we’ll revisit “The Hedge Knight” to refresh ourselves before the series returns.
