Enthusiasts of the Dune universe can look forward to some exciting news, as Emily Watson, portraying Valya Harkonnen in Dune: Prophecy, has disclosed the shooting schedule for the eagerly awaited second season.
During a chat with Screen Rant, Watson revealed that filming is scheduled to start this autumn, igniting enthusiasm amongst fans who can’t wait to discover how the tale of the Bene Gesserit unfolds.
As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t hide my excitement! The rumors suggest a fall kickoff for this incredible journey we’re about to embark on, and
10,000 years prior to the storyline of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies, we journey back with Dune: Prophecy, delving into the origins of the formidable Bene Gesserit sisterhood.
The enigmatic and controlling Bene Gesserit exert significant power within the political spheres of the Imperium, often operating behind the scenes. Valya Harkonnen, as portrayed by Watson, plays a pivotal role in this complex tapestry of influence.
In the initial run of Dune: Prophecy, we’re introduced to Valya who finds herself immersed in the intricate power struggles within the Bene Gesserit. Additionally, it offers a glimpse into her bond with her sister, Tula Harkonnen, portrayed by Olivia Williams.
In the first season of Dune: Prophecy, I found myself immersed in the journey of Valya as she climbed the ranks within the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. The narrative delved into her increasing apprehensions about her waning power within the Imperium, a worry that intensified with the arrival of Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) and his profound influence over Emperor Javicco Corrino (Mark Strong).
Over time, Valya found herself under increasing stress. Her sister Tula got arrested, and the influence she held within the Sisterhood started to dwindle upon the return of Reverend Mother Dorotea.
In the thrilling conclusion, I found myself in a perilous predicament, going as far as authorizing the elimination of Emperor Javicco, a task that fell upon the capable shoulders of Sister Francesca.
As the season wrapped up, I found myself in a precarious position, even sanctioning the assassination of Emperor Javicco – a mission that was entrusted to the reliable Sister Francesca.
During an individual chat with Collider, actress Tabu (depicting Sister Francesca) shared insights about the intricate emotions her character harbors towards Emperor Javicco. Even amidst the heart-wrenching circumstances shaping their bond, Tabu clarified that, in truth, Francesca does hold affection for the emperor.
Tabu explained, “Indeed, yes. She does feel deep affection for the emperor. Her feelings towards him fluctuate, however, due to several factors. She doubts herself, he is married, and there are plans to place the princess on the throne instead. Moreover, she’s here to exert influence over him. However, it should be noted that his son, despite being the rightful heir, cannot become the emperor.
Fans of Dune: Prophecy can eagerly anticipate new discoveries, as the storyline continues to enrich and deepen the intricate mythos of the Dune universe.
