For much of her extensive professional life, Cher has provided memorable fashion milestones that continue to captivate us. One such instance is the daring Naked Illusion gown she donned at the Met Gala in 1974, an appearance that sparked plenty of conversation.

During his conversation with People magazine regarding the documentary “Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion,” he mentioned that it was actually Cher who chose to wear that particular dress.

Mackie mentioned that he asked Cher about her choice of outfit for the MET, and she expressed a wish for him to accompany her. He consented to this.

During our conversation, he mentioned that he had inquired about her choice of attire, saying, “But which outfit do you prefer? It should be something we’ve previously selected.” After a moment’s pause, she responded, “I’d like to wear the feathered dress.” In reference to the event, he shared that it was quite lively and exciting.

He shared his experience of numerous photographers emerging from the background at the Met and taking her photographs. He explained that she graced every newspaper the day after, and for the past five decades, this has been repeatedly highlighted.

Mackie expressed amazement, stating, “The crowd was shocked; they felt, this isn’t about fashion; she’s simply nude at the Metropolitan.

The source disclosed that the singer famous for I Got You Babe eventually appeared in the same dress in a 1974 edition of Vogue, a magazine shot by renowned photographer Richard Avedon.

In the end, a cut-out from that photoshoot was later used on the cover of Time Magazine, which was released on March 12, 1975.

During the interview, the designer shared his astonishment at seeing such a woman adorned in that manner on the Time’s cover, mentioning it’s not commonplace to encounter such an image.

The designer went on, “Typically, it was a quirky old Russian fellow that everyone disliked. It was quite bizarre. People from the Southern regions would snatch these publications from the stands and rip off the front page. It was absolutely astounding.
