Recently, Selena Gomez posted an emotional video on Instagram expressing her concerns about the ICE raids affecting undocumented immigrants in the U.S.
In the video, Gomez expressed, “Everyone I care about is being harmed, especially the children. It’s confusing. I’m truly sorry; I wish I could help, but I can’t find a way. I’ll do my best to figure something out, I swear.
Her heartfelt statement garnered both support and negative comments. Following a wave of criticism for seeming disconnected, Selena Gomez removed the video and subsequently posted on her Instagram, “It seems that expressing compassion is not acceptable.
On a Monday evening, Tom Homan, who served as the border chief for the Trump administration, countered Gomez’s remarks during his interview on Fox News. He rejected Gomez’s assertions, explaining that there was no verifiable proof supporting the incidents she described.
He argued in favor of ICE’s actions, explaining, “Immigration Customs and Enforcement is focusing on individuals who are unlawfully migrating and have a past criminal record. If there’s an issue with this approach, take it up with Congress and amend the law.” According to Homan, these ICE operations aim at promoting public safety.
Homan maintained the government’s position unwaveringly, stating that no regrets would be expressed regarding the enforced measures. He declared, “We will carry out this operation without any reservations.
As a relentless advocate, I’m dedicated to enhancing our community’s security – it’s not just about us, it’s for the betterment of our nation. We won’t look back, we won’t issue apologies – we’re pushing forward with determination. And let me assure you, during our recent operations, no families were apprehended.
Over the course of the weekend, ICE made 286 arrests on Saturday and a staggering 956 on Sunday. Homan affirmed their commitment to ongoing day-to-day activities, potentially resulting in millions of removals from the country.
On the other hand, certain organizations such as the Quakers have initiated legal proceedings to question the constitutional validity of these raids, especially those occurring within places of worship. Critics contend that the swift executions of law are infringing upon basic freedoms.
