Russell Howard is gearing up to entertain audiences in India for the first time as part of his 2025 world tour. He’ll be appearing in Mumbai and Bengaluru, showcasing his knack for witty humor and captivating storytelling. Anticipating his debut in India, Howard is eager to win over a new group of laughter enthusiasts. However, the question arises: How will he tailor his jokes to resonate with Indian audiences?
During an exclusive conversation, Howard expressed his ideas about modifying his humor for Indian spectators. He disclosed that his performances would blend old and new material, with the fresh content stemming from his adventures in India. “I’ve found success with my jokes in America, England, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and numerous other countries. It’s thrilling to discover if they will resonate in India,” he added.
For Howard, experiencing a fresh culture and finding amusement in its unique aspects significantly enhances the pleasure of working abroad. As he put it, “I get excited about visiting new locations, trying to grasp their essence and discover what makes them humorous, then sharing those observations on stage.
To get ready for his performances, Howard intends to arrive in Mumbai a few days ahead. While there, he will explore the city, pick up conversations, and watch everyday life unfold. In essence, he plans to absorb the city’s atmosphere and convey it during his shows, as he put it, “I’ll spend a couple of days in Mumbai, wandering around, listening, soaking it all up, and then try to express that experience on stage.
Besides admitting that not every joke of his might resonate with the Indian crowd, Howard expressed readiness to handle the situation gracefully. In his own words, “It would be quite amusing if my jokes don’t hit home in India when they have worked everywhere else, as it presents a fresh and unique experience.” This statement highlights his eagerness to face challenges head-on.
Russell Howard will make his India debut as part of the third installment of The DeadAnt Loop, happening on February 8 at Mumbai’s Sophia Bhabha Auditorium and on February 9 at Bengaluru’s Good Shepherd Auditorium. With a distinct mix of humor and a fresh perspective on local events, Howard is eager to make an indelible mark on Indian spectators.
