Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan has tense moment with Bill Burr

It’s possible to attribute the situation to Howie Mandel, a comedian and judge on America’s Got Talent who also hosts a podcast called Howie Mandel Does Stuff. Occasionally, he creates unnecessary drama, which can seem unfair to his guests. A recent example of this was with Bill Burr and Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins.

2024 saw Corgan discussing with Mandel an outside chance that Corgan and Burr might be blood relatives. It seems Corgan’s father was a traveling salesman who had children in various places during his travels. His stepmother hinted that perhaps they shared the same father. Burr, it appears, is perplexed by this situation rather than amused.

Initially, Burr had been invited to Mandel’s podcast, but he wasn’t aware that Corgan would join as well. This surprise clearly disconcerted Corgan, and it appeared Burr was not just uncomfortable, but genuinely annoyed or irritated by Corgan’s arrival.

Howie Mandel forces Billy Corgan and Bill Burr into an awkward situation

Initially, it seemed like Burr was accusing Corgan of unknowingly sharing an episode with the performer. However, Corgan clarified that he was aware Burr would also be a guest. Soon enough, both Burr and Corgan realized that Mandel had orchestrated their conversation, as it centered around what Corgan had suggested about Burr’s father.

It appears as if the entire situation might have been an unspoken prank. If it was, both Corgan and Burr handled their roles admirably. They didn’t seem to be aware that they would both be guests. Essentially, Mandel may have pulled a practical joke on both, but only one seemed amused by it.

Hey Corgan, I couldn’t help but wonder if it ever crossed your mind that perhaps I shouldn’t have shared that tale back then, given the heap of unwanted messages and nonsense I had to deal with afterwards? To be honest, though, I’m genuinely proud of your success. Kudos to you! But I’d appreciate it if you could keep those anecdotes to yourself from now on. I mean, what was the point in bringing that up?

Afterward, the comedian addressed Mandel with this question: “Do they present awards on YouTube for helping fathers in a discreet manner who are managing two households?

It’s quite odd for Billy Corgan to share a story speculating about Bill Burr’s potential father. He was prompted by Mandel in the last podcast episode to tell this story about possible family connections. However, it would have been better if he had declined. Now, fans of Mandel, Burr, and Corgan are caught up in an unnecessary and tense situation over something insubstantial.
