In the past, whispers arose about Natalie Portman potentially reprising her character, Padme, in the second season of ‘Ahsoka’. This speculation seemed plausible given Hayden Christensen’s return as Anakin in season 1, and considering the show’s ability to bring back deceased characters.
Initially, a rumor circulated, but it was eventually proven false. However, it seems that at some point, Portman did express interest in rejoining the series and even shot her scenes for it.
According to Jeff Sneider, speaking on The Hot Mic with John Rocha, Natalie Portman reportedly filmed scenes for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ during her work on ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’ However, these scenes showing her as Padmé were not included in the final edit of the series.
It turned out well that both shows came out around the same time: ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ debuted on Disney+ on May 27, 2022, and ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ featuring Portman as Mighty Thor, hit theaters on July 8, 2022. This concurrent release allowed Disney to involve Portman in both ventures, but unfortunately, her anticipated comeback to the Star Wars franchise didn’t pan out, keeping fans guessing about her part in it.
Previously, she filmed scenes for the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ series during her time on ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’ However, these scenes were not included in the final production, so it remains uncertain…
In essence, the character played by Portman, Padmé Amidala, can’t return in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ in a conventional way because the series doesn’t include the World Between Worlds plot device. This unique concept enabled Ahsoka to interact freely with Anakin. However, Portman might still appear through strategic flashbacks to maintain continuity and storytelling depth.
It’s being speculated by some inside sources that Portman could make an appearance in ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2. If she doesn’t, and if it turns out that she did film scenes for the show, perhaps she will return in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2 instead.
A couple of months back at Comic-Con in Los Angeles, McGregor hinted that they are considering a continuation of the show. Additionally, he expressed his desire to don the Clone Wars armor once more and collaborate with Hayden Christensen for more Prequel-era flashbacks akin to those presented in Season 1. This increases the chances of Padme flashback scenes.
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that we’re getting more stories from the masterful mind behind the series – it’s been hinted that our beloved character, Obi-Wan, seemed to have his tale wrapped up in the initial season. This new development is undoubtedly exciting!
