James Gunn Teases First Glimpse Of Milly Alcock’s Supergirl; Says He’s ‘Thrilled’ To Start Filming

James Gunn, one of the co-heads at DC Studios, is thrilled to begin filming Supergirl, with Milly Alcock in the lead role. To share this exciting news, he used social media and posted a sneak peek photo of Alcock seated on a director’s chair bearing the well-known Supergirl emblem – a nod to her breakout role in House of the Dragon.

Excited to watch cameras start filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden for Supergirl, Gunn posted on X (previously Twitter). He disclosed that director Craig Gillespie is infusing a distinctive feel into the narrative, while the actress offers a one-of-a-kind portrayal of the main character in each scene, as planned by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira.

The upcoming DC project is inspired by Tom King’s 2022 comic book series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” which was visually brought to life by Evely and adapted for the cinema by Nogueira. The plot centers around Supergirl (portrayed by Alcock) on a quest for vengeance, as her father was brutally murdered by Krem from Yellow Hill.

In a chivalrous journey through the cosmos, the valiant warrior Knolle escorts a young extraterrestrial girl. Their mission: to track down and eliminate Krem. Meanwhile, actress Melissa Benoist, who will play Kara Zor-El, announced the start of Supergirl filming. She posted a photo on Instagram, captioned “Meet Kara,” as her character Gunn.

The upcoming film is set to delve into the grittier beginnings of the DC heroine, depicted before her arrival on Earth, as suggested by the official summary. Alongside Alcock, Eve Ridley from “Three Body Problem” will portray the character Ruthye Mary Knolle in the production.

Initially, it was announced that Matthias Schoenaerts, known for his role in Rust and Bone, would take on the ominous character Krem. Meanwhile, Gunn shared through a post on Threads that Saffron Hocking, actress from House of the Dragon, was actually his initial choice for embodying Supergirl.

Interestingly, I mentioned Milly as my initial choice for this role to Peter (Safran) more than a year back, even before I had read the comics,” he stated then.
