It appears that the plans for “Avengers” next year, which Cumberbatch expressed excitement about, have undergone some alterations.

While speaking with Variety, Cumberbatch now says Doctor Strange is not in Avengers: Doomsday:

As per Benedict Cumberbatch’s statements, it was initially planned for Doctor Strange to appear in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” However, that film has been canceled due to the poor performance of “Quantumania” and the controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors. Instead, Marvel is reportedly reintroducing Robert Downey Jr. into the MCU, not as Iron Man, but as Doctor Doom.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s non-appearance in “Doomsday” is due to his character not fitting within this particular narrative arc.

Although Benedict Cumberbatch’s character, Doctor Strange, won’t appear in “Avengers: Doomsday”, he is confirmed to be in “Secret Wars”, set for release a year after.
