James Gunn’s Next DCU Project Revealed!

It’s been discovered that James Gunn is currently engaged in a new DC Universe project, following the completion of Creature Commandos, Superman, and Peacemaker Season 2. Recently, Gunn, who is known for his active social media presence, has become less vocal, causing fans to wonder about his recent activities.

James Gunn’s latest update

In answering fan queries, Gunn shared that he’s currently dedicating a significant portion of his time to planning his upcoming DC Studios project in advance.

A spectator inquired about James Guinn’s method of juggling the post-production tasks for both “Superman” and “Peacemaker”, while also managing pre-production and collaborating with the DC Studios teams on projects such as “Supergirl”, “Lanterns”, “The Batman 2” or “Sgt. Rock”. In simpler terms, they wanted to know how James Guinn is handling his workload, given that he’s working on multiple DC Studio projects at different stages.

Gunn replied:

Mostly, I’m engaged in post-production work for Superman and Peacemaker, yet I still dedicate a significant portion of time to planning my upcoming DC Studios project, reviewing dailies, and contributing suggestions on other projects. It feels significantly less daunting compared to when I was directing.

Haven’t heard from Gunn recently

Hello there! I’m glad to hear from you all and welcome the New Year with enthusiasm. I must confess, I’ve been a bit quiet lately on the movie front, but fear not, I’ve been busy behind the scenes gathering insights and thoughts for my next cinematic musings. Keep an eye out for more of my critiques soon!

Gunn responded by saying that although he had to leave because of the wildfires in Los Angeles, his home remains intact.

Overwhelmed, as the holiday season was followed by an evacuation from our Los Angeles residence due to wildfires (thankfully, our place is unharmed). Additionally, helping numerous friends who lost their homes or were also evacuated, and then returning home to Atlanta. Consequently, I’ve been preoccupied with various matters.

No DC Studios logo on Harley Quinn?

A viewer pointed out that the freshly released season of the Harley Quinn animated series doesn’t bear the DC Studios logo. In response, Gunn stated:

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that all DC television and film projects are now under the umbrella of DC Studios. While the spirited series “Harley Quinn” was created before our time, we felt it wouldn’t be right to add the DC Studios fanfare to it due to its history. On the other hand, when it comes to “Penguin,” a project with which we had a small involvement in its development, you’ll notice a distinct DC Studios animation at the end. At this moment, we’re diligently working on the captivating DC Studios Elseworlds opening.

What’s next for the DCU?

Next on DCU’s schedule: Superman will debut on July 11; Peacemaker Season 2 is anticipated later; Supergirl is currently filming for its June 26, 2026 premiere, and The Lanterns are expected to begin filming soon. Additionally, Clayface is in development with a planned release date of September 11, 2026.
